Shiatsu is a powerful form of energy-based bodywork. Shiatsu can effectively treat a range of musculo-skeletal and stress-related problems, can maintain good health and also help prevent many types of health problem from arising. With its roots in Japan, and in Traditional Chinese medicine, Shiatsu uses relaxed body weight, applied principally with the hands, to stimulate the body’s own self-healing. In addition to treating a wide range of specific health issues, it is deeply relaxing and can enhance one’s overall health and sense of wellbeing. Exciting developments in modern science are increasingly able to show how this kind of energy medicine works.
The Shiatsu College, established in 1986, is one of the most well respected Shiatsu schools in the UK. We are dedicated to the exploration and learning of Shiatsu, energy work, Qigong and associated studies. We aim to provide the highest possible quality of training and professional development for our students – essentially placing the wellbeing of our students at the heart of our practice.
The College’s professional Shiatsu Practitioner 3 year Level 4 Shiatsu Diploma Course is a government recognised qualification, regulated by Ofqual, as well as being fully ratified by the Shiatsu Society (UK). Graduates of the Diploma course become Members of the Professional Practitioners Register of the Shiatsu Society (MrSS) upon graduation.
Each Branch has a teaching team of experienced, highly qualified Shiatsu practitioners registered as Teachers with the Shiatsu Society. With individual regular professional development and mentoring, our teachers maintain the highest international standards of practice. Please visit the regional Branch page of your own area to find out more about your local teaching team.
Our lineage stems directly from the Japanese tradition of Shiatsu pioneers Pauline Sasaki and Shizuto Masunaga and the College’s Founder teachers have a wide international reputation. In 1986 they were: Clifford Andrews, Nicola Ley, Carola Beresford-Cooke and Paul Lundberg. Between them they are the authors of a number of key Shiatsu study texts and post-graduate online learning initiatives.
