Anne has a degree in microbiology, and did research into medical genetics in hospitals and universities for 15 years. She has been studying Tai Chi since 1978 with Miss Rose Li. 

Her Shiatsu studies began in 1983 with Michael Rose and Pauline Sasaki and she graduated from the Shiatsu College in 1990. She set up and is now Principal of the Newcastle upon Tyne branch of the College. 

Anne was the Assessment Co-ordinator for the Shiatsu Society between 1991 and 1994, and the Chair between 1995 and 1997.
