Shiatsu as a Profession
Shiatsu is available within the NHS – from hospital based pain management clinics to GP surgeries and community outreach services. Shiatsu is bought by other public sector organisations, such as the Probation Service, and charitable bodies running facilities including drug addiction centres and cancer care services.
Organisations as varied as M&S, legal firms, software development companies and The Inland Revenue invite Shiatsu practitioners in as part of their staff support schemes.
Private practice is an aspect of many practitioners' work, often working from a complementary health centre or a home-based clinic. Shiatsu College trained practitioners have flourishing full-time practices from the Orkneys to Cornwall and across Europe.
A popular aspect of a Shiatsu career can be the opportunity to work for yourself, and to determine the pattern of work hours. Shiatsu practitioners can choose to work full-time or may build their practice around child-care or life-style choices.
