1st Year  Syllabus

Overview:
In this year you learn the practical basics of Shiatsu; breathing centering and relaxed use of body weight. You will learn different techniques for pressure and stretching, and the locations of the twelve classical meridians of acupuncture and the main points or tsubos.
The theory taught during this year covers the basic concepts which form the building blocks of traditional Oriental medicine and diagnosis, many of which can be put to use straightaway in your treatments.
You will also receive a grounding in anatomy, taught with relevance to your Shiatsu.

2nd Year  Syllabus

Overview:
In this year you will learn the Zen Shiatsu style, developed by Masunaga, with its emphasis on direct interaction with the receiver's Ki. You will study the clear Zen Shiatsu method of diagnosis, and learn new treatment routines to introduce the extensions of the meridians which cover the whole body.
The theoretical concepts of traditional Oriental medicine are expanded to harmonise with modern understanding of physiology and psychology. Your study of classical theory also continues, with a system for classifying and interpreting the symptoms of disease.
You will also be taught a basic understanding of the organ systems in Western physiology.

This is the year to integrate all the practical and theoretical material you have learned for use in practice. Your concerns become more professional in nature, with supervised treatments on the public in the College clinic, lessons on case-taking and setting up a practice, and preparation for the Shiatsu Society Assessment.
Your understanding of Western anatomy and physiology will be further developed by studies in pathology.
